When 'made in China 2025' meets 'Industrial 4.0' in Germany

On June 14th, German Chancellor Angela Merkel concluded a three-day visit to China. The visit marks the ninth time that Merkel has set foot on Chinese soil since becoming chancellor of Germany in November 2005, becoming the most frequent Western leader ever to visit China. 


Public opinion generally believes that Sino-German relations are at the "best time in history." Pushing the "made in China 2025" and Germany's "Industrial 4.0" into a deep docking became a highlight of Merkel's trip. 


In April 2013, the German government officially launched the "Industrial 4.0" strategy. In May 2015, The State Council officially issued "made in China 2025", the deployment of comprehensive implementation of the strategy of manufacturing power. During Merkel's visit to China in October of the same year, China and Germany announced that they would push forward the strategic docking of "made in China 2025" and "Industrial 4.0" of Germany in order to jointly promote the new industrial revolution and format. 


Zhang Jianping, director of the International Cooperation Office of the Foreign Economic Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, said: "Germany's manufacturing concept and manufacturing quality are obvious to all around the world. If German technology and the Chinese market can be linked up, Will produce very big cooperation advantage. Not only that, Zhang said, "there is also a very good docking advantage between German technology and Chinese capital." 


Wang Yi, a part-time researcher at the German Research Center of Tongji University and director of the European Union Research Center of Renmin University of China, told the newspaper that connecting the "made in China 2025" with the German "Industrial 4.0" was a "far-sighted move." Leading German investment to mainland cities such as Chengdu and Shenyang, "this has tapped the potential for cooperation and led China's relationship with developed countries." 


Shenyang to build a model for cooperation, Merkel came to Shenyang, visited brilliance BMW Tiexi factory, and witnessed the success of BMW's new generation hybrid SUV model offline. Merkel's first trip to the northeast attracted great attention from public opinion at home and abroad. Analysts believe that the transformation and development of the Northeast depends on the upgrading of the manufacturing sector, which provides a broad space for Sino-German cooperation. 


As one of BMW Group's most advanced intelligent manufacturing base, brilliance BMW Shenyang factory can be called "made in China 2025" docking Germany "Industrial 4.0" the most intuitive embodiment. Since its establishment in Shenyang in 2003, brilliance BMW has built two complete vehicle plants, Dadong factory and Tiexi factory, with a total output of more than 1.3 million vehicles. BMW also brought into Shenyang its first engine factory with a foundry workshop outside Europe and the world's second research and development center. Merkel's visit to the Tiexi BMW factory, in China and Germany (Shenyang) high-end equipment manufacturing industry park. This is the first Chinese-German high-end equipment manufacturing industry cooperation as the theme of the strategic platform. At present, 144 German-funded enterprises have entered the China-Germany equipment Park, of which 37 have been built. 


Cui Hongjian, director of the Institute of European Studies at the China Institute of International Studies, believes that there is a lot of room for Sino-German cooperation in both the industrial chain and scientific and technological innovation.
